Imagine 2050: Audio: 2050 Blogcast – July 2008
This is my fiance’s aunt whose name is Lamia (spelled phonetically until I learn how to both spell and say it correctly). She is 78 and has been living in Amman, Jordan for about 3-5 years. She was forced out of her Baghdad home under punishment of death by U.S. Marines. She is a retired school teacher and former head administrator of schools in Baghdad. In this short sound clip we hear her tell us what she used to like to do during her retirement back home and what she does now since the United States invaded Iraq. This gets at the heart of my idea for this project: How has the U.S. invasion affected middle class and professional Iraqis and where are they now? Stay tuned, I have some translated audio of her daughter, who is/was a prosecuting attorney in Iraq, and her thoughts on what has happened to her country.

p.s. i FINALLY got my luggage! phew! 3-days with no new clothes was getting a bit ‘sticky’.
A while back I posted some links to a live recording I did of the amazing dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson. I just noticed that those links were dead so I’ve updated them. Anybody interested in hearing the master read his poetry is welcome to download my bootleg recording (actually it was a “Pen Mic” recording but now I’m just getting technical). Anyway, it’s a fairly decent capture of the show I saw but I definitely say, you must pick up his CDs if you are not already a fan of his. The original post that describes the recording a little more is here but I’m also including the links below…enjoy!

A friend sent me a link to this and wow! Listen to Gordon talk about silence, sound, noise intrusions, listening and his own deafness. There are a series of chapters that are about 2-5 minutes a piece. Really beautiful stuff here, folks. Check it out at http://radioprimetime.org/specials/silence/index.html
I just completed some updates to the web site for my SisterLove documentary project. The best of which is that you can now listen to the 2-minute teaser with no sign-up hassles. However, if you want to hear the complete 18-minute version of chapter one then you will have to sign up, albeit free, on PRX.org. Anyway, all of the details and more are now available at www.sisterloveradio.com . Please stop by and pass the link around to your friends!
I’ve posted a new teaser for my project “SisterLove: Keeping it Real, Globally” over on the Public Radio Exchange web site. You can listen and/or download it over there:
Alright, back to work! FYI, the completed project will likely be available after June 10!!! ciao…
I released a small clip the other week and here is a reworked version. I wasn’t happy with the last one because when put alongside the other content there were some very repetitive components. I’m really enjoying this one as it has Nyrobi (the woman speaking) being a little more ‘serious’ compared to the first clip. Anyway, where I am using this one is in the beginning of the project as I introduce SisterLove — who they are, what they do, etc…This clip actually leads into a full version of a healthy love party where Nyrobi is demonstrating the use of a dental damn. When listening you really get the feeling you are there (well, I was
…but you’ll think you were there, too)! So, check this small clip out and feel free to leave comments…actually, I like them so please do
.

I thought it might be about time to release a little teaser from the audio documentary I’m working on now. What you’ll hear is a bridge that I’m making to connect some early element introductions. It’s made up of excerpts from a couple of “Healthy Love Parties” that SisterLove puts on as part of their HIV/AIDS prevention and education work. The small segment isn’t completely finished but it’s good enough to show. So enjoy it and leave constructive comments and feedback via the “Comments” link directly below this post.
